What is EquiSil™?
EquiSil™ is a new innovation in Horsetail (Equisetum arvense) which has been carefully designed to maximise bioavailable natural plant silica as well as the bioactive polysaccharide fraction responsible for the uptake of silica from the environment into the plant.
How is silica used by humans?
- Silica provides the building blocks for formation of collagen, elastin, and keratin in the body.
- It is found in connective tissues throughout the body.
- Silica regulates metal chelation in the body and can have dramatic effects on surplus supply of some metals, down-regulating negative effects of those metals.
- Like collagen, innate silica levels decline with age, amplifying the importance of silica supplementation as we grow older.

To understand the Equisil™ advantage, we firstly need to understand silica (Si):
- Earth’s second most abundant element (second only to oxygen).
- Silica comprises 30% of the Earth’s crust.
- Humans don’t produce silica endogenously. It comes from exposure to the environment in which we live.
- Despite this, we have found a way to rely on silica to perform a wide variety of functions in the body.
- Silica helps to form collagen, cartilage, connective tissue, hair, skin, nails, bone, and chelates environmental metals.
Equisil™ Process:
EquiSil™ is the result of a proprietary process designed to maximise silica in its monomeric form (did you know: polymerised silica is very poorly absorbed). EquiSil™ retains silica in its amorphous (non-crystalline), nanoparticle form (important to note: the final extract is not nanomaterial).
The process also concentrates the bioactive polysaccharides which are responsible for uptake and stabilisation of silica in the Horsetail plant itself and can be attributed to enhanced bioavailability when taking EquiSil™ in food and supplement products.

Fun Fact
Beer is an excellent source of silica and is particularly high in the most bioavailable silica form, Orthosilicic acid, though it is not recommended as a good source of silica due to the obvious adverse effects associated with overconsumption of alcohol.
